STORMCo - Service To Others Really Matters

What is STORMCo?
There are no set projects, no expectations of reward and no limits! STORMco teams approach the local communities and ask them what needs to be done, how to best do it and also try and involve the local community in the process.

Each year hundreds of young people travel to a community to serve the area in a beneficial way. THEY GIVE UP THEIR TIME AND MONEY, often in school or university holidays but the sacrifice of time and money often has its own PERSONAL REWARDS that you can only experience.

STORMco is a youth initiative of the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church organised under the banner of ADRA – The Adventist Development and Relief Agency. The StormCo. mission is to send teams of trained young people to work for, learn from, and interact with individual communities. There are presently more than 50 different teams that venture into communities all over Australia to help out in any way they can.

In the past, the Kellyville Seventh Day Adventist Church has run small trips to communities in and around Sydney - however in 2005 we decided to ADOPT A COMMUNITY in rural NSW and chose the Bogan Shire (Nyngan) as our proposed destination.

Each year since then, our STORMco team has returned to Nyngan in the Easter School holidays and provided fun activities for the children and youth.  A morning KIDS CLUB features puppets, games, crafts and activities for the younger kids - the afternoon youth program features sports and crazy games for the teens/youth.

Outside of these programs, our team endeavours to help the community in whatever way it can by completing community service projects.

Our 2006 STORMco team received the Baulkham Hills Shire Council Youth Award for a Group Project.

One year later, our 2007 team received the "Highly Commended" Youth Award for a group project.

In April 2009, our team returned to Nyngan for another fun filled school holiday program and community service.  More than 170 children and youth attended the programs over the course of the week.

In 2009, STORMco sponspored the Pinnacle of Terror to also join our program, and the team spent three days challenging the local youth and helping them to take the "Leap of Faith".

Check out some of our photos of the 2009 week.   2010 photos will be available soon.

The team have just returned from another successful week of programs in Nyngan (April 12 - 16). A total of 600 children attended over the week, averaging 120 children per day.  In the afternoon, approximately 50 youth enjoyed the Wildlife fun with lots of footy, ultimate frisbee, capture the flag, photo rally and crazy food games!

Planning has already begun for 2011 - we can't wait!
