Where We Went...

Wat Preah Yesu Children's Home is located in the rural province of Siem Reap in North Eastern Cambodia. The home cares for orphaned and severely disadvantaged children, who are a casualty of the HIV and AIDS epidemic or from the poorer rural class. There are over ONE HUNDRED CHILDREN IN ITS CARE, many having received no education, nor would they have the chance without the home's assistance. The orphanage has self-contained houses that are operated in part by a local couple who act as surrogate parents. UP TO 25 CHILDREN are placed with the couple to act as a family unit. They are provided with schooling nearby and also assistance with employment on graduation.

THE PROJECT...

In December/January, 2008 a team of 39 dedicated young people flew to Cambodia to build another house to increase the home's capacity. The team consisted of four qualified tradesmen, the balance consisting of young people between ages 18 - 30 WILLING TO GIVE UP THEIR TIME to help a community ravaged by poverty, turmoil and civil unrest for decades.
