Here at Kellyville, we have some amazing women, up front or behind the scenes, there they are using their gifts and talents for our collective benefit. Whether it’s up front at the podium, leading worship, playing an instrument, involved in Media, leading life groups, part of the team that’s organizing lunches, dinners, special events, Pathfinders, a listening ear, a helping hand, greeting you at the door and wiping up the spills and thrills of church life... Kellyville has some fabulous women who just make Kellyville a wonderful place to be. There is one thing that all women know and that is the Sisterhood. What this means is that we are not alone and even though we love our individuality, there is a greater good that comes from belonging to the Sisterhood. The Sisterhood stretches itself out and embraces all women, it spans across all cultures, religions, creeds and to put it simply, women reach out to each other with nuture, help, mentoring, concern & care for one another. It’s not something that we just invented, but it has gone on for a very, very long time. Women have passed down throughout history this ability to take care of your own family whilst lending a listening ear, some practical advice and some not so useful advice on all topics pertaining to women. It’s our women friends who will mind our child, bring a casserole over when we’re sick, give us a hug and a shoulder to cry on, will tell us how to make the best lasagna, how to get over our good selves and get back in the game, when we’re feeling low. They cheer us on, they lift us up, they can tell just by looking at us that we’re not quite right and something is up, they come alongside us thru the tough times and are joyful for us in the great and fabulous moments of our lives. At Kellyville there is a women’s group called SOULFOOD. We usually meet every second month on a Sunday afternoon from 3-5pm unless we’re having a Saturday night social event. We set up a Café and a pamper station, and we decorate the place all gorgeous and girly. There’s lots of time to have a cuppa with friends, or make new friends and listen to interviews with women from our church who are doing something interesting. We will have a short presentation on a relevant issue to us as females. When we share our stories, we encourage and empower each other and ourselves. We have laughs and yes sometimes tears, but hey ... that’s what makes us women! SOULFOOD is a great place to also bring your friends, who perhaps know or do not know God, they can come along in an informal atmosphere and who knows where that may lead them. Mostly we’re women who love God and just want to share what He’s doing in our lives. Women mentoring women, challenging each other to think and grow, to become the beautiful woman that God made each of us to be. You can subscribe to our newsletter to keep in touch with all things Soulfood. I hope that you will come and join us… sometimes women say to me; "but I don’t really need it ... ", but you know there might be other women who need to be amongst a company of women who are walking with God and can show the way. A woman who has inspired me and many others, is Joy Butler, who has now gone to Kenya in Africa after being the Women’s Ministries Director for the South Pacific, Joy put it this way:
A huge challenge, but we start by coming alongside each other and becoming a company of women who want to make change. Lynda Keck Women's Ministries Director |
