| StormCo Nyngan update |
|
Our team of 40 or so volunteers are going really well in Nyngan. After a long day on the bus to travel the 600 kilometres to get there, the team arrived and promptly set up camp in the Nyngan Town Hall. Air mattresses were inflated (and some leaks were found!), a huge store of food was unpacked and preparations organised for the Kids Club and Youth Wildlife program to be run each day in the coming week. Sunday, the team organised crafts, games and rehearsed puppet plays. In the afternoon they checked out the Nyngan Show, caught up with a few friends from last year, listened to Steve Passfield and "Handpicked" who StormCo sponsored to play music at the Nyngan Show. The locals were truly impressed with Steve's music and he entertained well into the night. The team spent time mixing with the locals and explaining what they were doing in town (as they were all wearing their team shirts). Monday was a beautiful sunny day, and more than 30 kids arrived to the free kids club to have a great time playing with the clowns, doing their crafts, playing games with the team, singing songs and watching our puppet show. The face painting team did an awesome job too. The Nyngan show was still on in town and so many of the kids were there and unable to attend our program. In the afternoon, the team went back to the show to chat to the kids, parents and youth - they passed out invitations to the kids Club and Wildlife programs. In the night, the rodeo was on and the StormCo team was represented in a 'milking' event (videos to come!). The team got loads of good exposure and was really 'mixing it' with the locals. Tuesday, more than 90 kids registered! It was a full on morning and the whole team was working so well together - supporting each other, playing with the kids and sharing fun together. The face painting team were painted off their feet this day! More than 20 youth arrived on Tuesday afternoon for the Wildlife program - which was a great response. These guys just love to play sport and hang out. A photo rally, The Amazing Race, and lots more activities are planned with this group during the week. The local community is so welcoming to our team and thankful for the program that we put on. Kellyville should be proud of the way our teens and youth are representing our church and portraying God's love to the community. While half of the team run Wildlife, the other half go out to do some community service which has been organised for them. The StormCo team are truly leaving their mark on the town and after 4 years, are becoming well known for their Christian spirit. The town is absolutely behind the team and is so supportive. It will be hard to leave our friends there. Thanks to everyone for their huge support both financially and with the food prepared - it is appreciated! Come to the Access worship service on May 20 where you'll hear more and see some great pics/video from the week.
